Syrian death toll: In the Jan. 7 Section A, an article about the reduction of Russian forces in Syria said that the civil war there has claimed more than 40,000 lives. It has claimed more than 400,000 lives.

Kompromat: In the Jan. 12 Section A, an article about kompromat, a Russian espionage tactic, misstated the year that the Soviet Union collapsed. It was 1991, not 1989.
