Council approves Garcetti’s nominees for airport commission

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved Mayor Eric Garcetti’s six nominees for the Board of Airport Commissioners.

Seated were Jackie Goldberg, a former council member and state assemblywoman; Cynthia Telles, a civic leader and former vice president of the City Ethics Commission; and Sean Burton, a former Warner Bros. executive, real estate developer and attorney.

Also approved were Matthew Johnson, a civic leader and entertainment lawyer; Bea Hsu, a real estate developer and former advisor to state Controller Kathleen Connell; and Gabriel Eshaghian, a real estate investment executive who has worked in the travel and airline industry.

Reappointed to the commission was Valeria Velasco, an attorney and former community activist from Playa del Rey who has challenged past development plans for Los Angeles International Airport.

The seven-member board is the policymaking body for Los Angeles World Airports, which operates LAX, LA/Ontario International and Van Nuys Airport, a general aviation facility.
