Join Times staffer Ben Welsh at 9 a.m. for an L.A. Now Live discussion of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s changing positions on what public information it will provide.

In recent days, LAFD public information officers had given out far less public information than in the past, citing new direction from legal advisors and officials.

On Thursday, the department put its Twitter account on “hiatus” and said it was going to halt release of records that show how long it takes rescuers to respond to calls for help.

Mayor Eric Garcetti quickly criticized the move, calling it “ridiculous.”

Within hours of saying it was rolling back public disclosure, the LAFD said it would resume providing details about the department’s response to life-and-death emergencies via social media, and again release 911 audio recordings and database records on its performance.

During the chat, readers can submit their questions and comments and we’ll get to as many of them as we can.
