Los Angeles police plan to hold a news conference today to discuss the grand jury decision in Missouri not to indict a Ferguson police officer for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The conference starts at 9 a.m. at the LAPD administration building in downtown Los Angeles, where acting Mayor Herb Wesson, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and Los Angeles Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff will address the recent decision and protests.

The total number of arrests and details about Monday night’s protests also will be discussed, LAPD Officer Luis Garcia said.

Local protests Monday night extended from Beverly Hills to Leimert Park in downtown L.A. Demonstrators broke through a fence and walked onto the 110 Freeway at the 10, spurring an hourlong closure of the 110.

In Oakland, about 1,000 protesters took part in demonstrations that turned violent, with rocks and bottles thrown at CHP officers. Multiple arrests were made.

These were in addition to numerous protests across the U.S. as many expressed outrage over Brown’s killing. Brown, a black teenager, was shot and killed by a Ferguson, Mo., Police Officer Darren Wilson, who is white.
