Newport Beach doctor charged in child porn case
A federal grand jury indicted a Newport Beach doctor this week on child pornography charges.
Dr. Mark A. Rettenmaier, a practicing gynecological oncologist, had the pornography on a laptop, multiple hard drives and an iPhone, according to a court document charging him with two felonies.
Federal prosecutor Tony Brown declined to reveal details about the case.
In addition to Rettenmaier’s practice in Newport Beach, his online biography identifies him as an associate professor at UCLA and USC. Rettenmaier’s office did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Authorities have not arrested Rettenmaier, Brown told Times Community News, but he is scheduled for a detention hearing in December.
