Gov. Jerry Brown banks nearly $20 million for reelection bid
Gov. Jerry Brown reported a war chest of nearly $20 million as he seeks an unprecedented fourth term as the state’s top executive, according to financial disclosure documents filed Friday with the California secretary of state’s office.
He reported raising nearly $3 million between the start of 2014 and March 17, while spending nearly $95,000 in that time period, according to the disclosure reports. Among those who contributed the maximum legal amount were many labor unions, Netflix founder Reed Hastings, Napster founder Sean Parker and several descendants of the founders of the Gap Inc.
Brown’s wife, Anne Gust Brown, once served as an executive at the San Francisco-based clothing company, and several of the donors reportedly fought a successful Brown-supported ballot measure that increased some taxes in 2012.
The two primary GOP candidates who hope to take on Brown in the fall have not yet filed their financial disclosure reports, which are due Monday.
