Tucson police say there’s been an officer-involved shooting on the city’s south side.

Two police officers were struck by gunfire, and one of the officers with serious injuries is in surgery at a hospital.

A police spokesman’s Twitter post on the incident did not provide the condition of the second officer or say whether that officer was actually shot, and no additional information is immediately available on the circumstances of the shooting.

The incident happened Thursday morning on the city’s south side, where police told the public to avoid an area centered on South Campbell Avenue and Benson Highway.
