Got any more money? Find who deserves it on Giving Tuesday

Share

It’s Giving Tuesday, that social-media-engineered day when consumers can redeem themselves after wallowing in Black Friday and Cyber Monday splurges.

If your bank account isn’t empty, it’s a good chance to find a charity you like. Charity Navigator is one group that helps givers weed through the numerous available good causes. The nonprofit maintains a database of 7,000 charities, which it rates on a scale of one to four stars based on financial health, accountability and transparency, according to Charity Navigator’s Sandra Miniutti.

The group, founded in 2001, has divvied up charities into groups -- celebrity-related charities, super-sized charities, consistently low-rated charities and more.

In the spirit of selflessness, here’s this month’s list of highly-rated charities with lower-paid CEOs. Each has earned at least two consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator and spends at least 80% of its budget on the services and programs it provides.

Tops on the list is Crisis Aid International, a St. Louis organization that, among other endeavors, helps to battle sex trafficking and hunger at different spots around the globe.

You can search four-star charities in your area by using your city and state or ZIP Code. Here are the ratings for some Los Angeles charities.
