Birds flock over participants in the Border Run, a race from Newport Beach to San Diego that sprang from a dispute between Huntington Beach boat designer Randy Reynolds and the nonprofit Newport Ocean Sailing Assn. The group denied Reynolds entry into its Newport-to-Ensenada International Yacht Race on the grounds that his catamaran is unsafe. He insists it is not.
