Wrong-way driver, other motorist killed in crash
Two men were killed early Saturday after one of them drove the wrong way on the 57 Freeway in Diamond Bar, colliding with the other driver in a minivan, California Highway Patrol officers reported.
The fiery predawn collision occurred north of the 60 Freeway, officers said in a report.
The three-car accident occurred about 4:15 a.m. when Jesse Fierro, 27, of Montebello drove his Ford F-150 truck south in the northbound lanes of the 57. Fierro is believed to have been driving under the influence, CHP Officer Jose Nunez said.
Fierro hit a Chevrolet Astro minivan, which burst into flames, officers said. The minivan’s driver died at the scene, and his body was so charred that he has not yet been identified, a Los Angeles County coroner’s office spokesman said Saturday evening. Fierro was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he died shortly after 5:30 a.m.
A third driver, Gregory Mark Cosner, 52, of Upland, avoided the truck by swerving into the center divider, officers said.
