Aliso Viejo Mayor Cynthia Adams, who helped the master-planned community incorporate, will resign next month and move to Las Vegas.

Adams announced Wednesday at a council meeting that her last day would be May 13. She said she and her husband planned to keep a home in Aliso Viejo.

Adams, who said she was resigning for personal reasons, was elected in 2001, after serving on the committee that helped found Aliso Viejo in 2000. She was reelected in November.

Her departure is the second this year, following Karl Warkomski’s resignation in February. Don Garcia was appointed to fill his seat.

The council, which can appoint a replacement within 30 days of her resignation or hold a special election, will meet Thursday to decide how to fill the vacancy.
