An emirate sheik who headed one of the world’s biggest sovereign wealth funds has been found dead four days after a glider crash in Morocco, state media said Tuesday.

Sheik Ahmed bin Zayed al Nahyan, 41, was a younger brother of the ruler of Abu Dhabi, who is also president of the United Arab Emirates. He was ranked No. 27 on the Forbes list of the world’s most powerful people last year.

His fund, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, is believed to have assets of between $500 billion and $700 billion, ranging from Citigroup bonds to a stake in Britain’s Gatwick Airport.

Experts expect the leadership role at the investment authority to remain within the ruling family.

The sheik’s glider crashed Friday into a reservoir south of Rabat, Morocco. His body was pulled from the water Tuesday.
