No charges in Olmert bank case
Israel’s chief prosecutor said there was not enough evidence to charge departing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert over his conduct in the sale of an Israeli commercial bank.
Olmert resigned in September in the face of several corruption cases, but is serving as caretaker until a Feb. 10 vote.
A senior civil servant had alleged that Olmert, when serving as a minister under former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, intervened in the tender for the sale of Bank Leumi to aid a friend who eventually did not buy the bank.
Olmert has also been questioned for allegedly accepting cash from an American Jewish fundraiser and using a Cabinet post to promote a friend’s business interests.
