The Defense Department last week also identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Segun Frederick Akintade, 34, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; specialist, Army National Guard. Akintade was killed Oct. 28 when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire in Abd Allah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, Army National Guard in New York.

Jeremy D. Bow, 20, of Lemoore, Calif.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Bow was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

John T. Byrd II, 23, of Fairview, W.Va.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Byrd was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Kelley L. Courtney, 28, of Macon, Ga.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Courtney was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 3rd Intelligence Battalion, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Maurice Keith Fortune, 25, of Forestville, Md.; sergeant, Army. Fortune was killed Oct. 29 when a car bomb exploded near his military vehicle in Ramadi, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Camp Hovey, Korea.

Travis A. Fox, 25, of Cowpens, S.C.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Fox was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

James C. Kearney III, 22, of Emerson, Iowa; specialist, Army National Guard. Kearney died Monday in Salerno, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his convoy was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades in Sharan, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 168th Infantry, Army National Guard in Glenwood, Iowa.

Christopher J. Lapka, 22, of Peoria, Ariz.; corporal, Marine Corps. Lapka was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

John Lukac, 19, of Las Vegas; private first class, Marine Corps. Lukac was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in an enemy attack in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Matthew D. Lynch, 25, of Jericho, N.Y.; first lieutenant, Marine Corps. Lynch was killed Oct. 31 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Andrew G. Riedel, 19, of Northglenn, Colo.; private first class, Marine Corps. Reidel was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Michael P. Scarborough, 28, of Washington, Ga.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Scarborough was among eight Marines killed Oct. 30 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.

Charles J. Webb, 22, of Hamilton, Ohio; sergeant, Army. Webb died Wednesday in the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad of injuries suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 82nd Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized) in Bamberg, Germany.

Cody L. Wentz, 21, of Williston, N.D.; specialist, Army National Guard. Wentz was killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle in Iraq. He was assigned to the 141st Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard in Williston, N.D.
