Allies in a mother’s antiwar stand

Re “Mother’s Protest at Bush’s Doorstep Raises the Stakes,” Aug. 11

This should be a red flag for President Bush to face reality regarding his Iraq war. Cindy Sheehan, whose son died needlessly in Iraq, deserves recognition from the president.

Obviously, Bush’s refusal to meet directly with her shows what a coward he really is. It would behoove him to explain to Sheehan why her son died for a purely selfish cause, his personal fight for global domination. Bush’s delusions have brought the human race one step closer to utter destruction. We, as Americans, must see to it that such dangerous thinking must end now!

Hats off to Sheehan -- she is my new hero, role model and example of what a true American patriot is really like. While still grieving over her slain son because of this unconscionable war, she is attempting to see the president and voice her peaceful protest, and has been denied an audience. This is obscene.

If what she wanted to tell the president was that she was proud because her son died in the service of his country, the red carpet would undoubtedly have been rolled out. Perhaps her bravery may shorten the war by a day, or an hour, and save other mothers and families from experiencing the anguish she is undergoing. We are with you, Cindy. Don’t give up!

an answer,” Opinion, Aug. 11

I disagree with Margaret Carlson: Bush -- if this hermetically sealed president is even aware of what is going on at his ranch -- would not be moved by Sheehan.

He hasn’t been moved by any of the more than 1,800 needless deaths of Americans he has caused with his lies. I can’t even fathom the tens of thousands of Iraqis who have suffered because his “oil boys” hold dominion over him. The Cindy Sheehans of this world infuriate him and all the lunatic conservatives that have created this tragedy.
