Afghan justice?

Re “In Afghanistan, money tips the scales of justice,” Dec. 18

A working and fair justice system is one of the pillars of democracy. Your description of Afghanistan’s justice system is that of a legal system that is neither fair nor working, and it reminds me of an even more broken system in neighboring Iraq.

When one considers the condition of the remaining pillars, such as security, sovereignty of the people, minority rights, guaranteed basic human rights, etc., one has to marvel as to how these “models for democracy” so shoddily built by President Bush are still half-standing.
