President Nixon and Watergate
Transcripts of Richard M. Nixon's grand jury testimony 10 months after his 1974 resignation from the presidency are being released Thursday, the first time the public will hear Nixon talk under oath about Watergate. The subjects that were discussed include the famous 18½-minute gap on the White House tapes, what happened to an illegal $100,000 in cash that Howard Hughes donated to Nixon, wiretaps on Nixon's own National Security Council staffers, campaign contributors being promised ambassadorships as quid pro quos, and Nixon's ordering an IRS audit on Democratic National Committee Chairman Larry O'Brien.
