Rick Santorum still lags behind others in fundraising

Share

Rick Santorum will report a summer fundraising total slightly higher than the $582,000 that his presidential campaign raised last spring, the former Pennsylvania senator said Sunday in an interview with Fox News.

His campaign raised more in the final 2 1/2 weeks of the third quarter than it had raised in the preceding 2 1/2 months, Santorum said, suggesting that his longshot candidacy was “beginning to gain traction.” But failing to break even the $1-million mark in the third quarter would suggest otherwise.

By comparison, Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign has said it raised $17 million between mid-August and the end of September.

Santorum’s haul will almost certainly rank among the lowest amounts reported by the eight major GOP contenders.

Still, he said, his campaign has managed to stay out of debt.

“We’re running a grassroots campaign,” Santorum said. “We’re not spending a lot of money. I don’t have a lot of overhead. I have no consultants.”
