Romney ‘appreciative’ of Trump but may not always agree with him

Asked about his upcoming fundraiser with mogul Donald Trump, who has questioned President Obama’s birthplace and U.S. citizenship, Mitt Romney said he appreciated Trump’s aid and did not always agree with his backers.

“I don’t agree with all the people who support me and my guess is they don’t all agree with everything I believe in,” Romney told reporters aboard his charter plane Monday evening shortly before taking off for Colorado. “But I need to get 50.1% or more, and I’m appreciative to have the help of a lot of good people.”

The presumptive Republican nominee will be fundraising with Trump in Las Vegas on Tuesday evening, the same night he is expected to clinch the GOP nomination because of the Texas primary.

“It’s going to be a big day tomorrow,” Romney said. “I look forward to the good news.”

The persistent contention that Obama was not born in the U.S. has been repeatedly disproved.

Earlier Monday, Romney appeared at a Memorial Day commemoration with Sen. John McCain of Arizona and apparently made time for an afternoon barbeque with his family. His son Matt cooked hot dogs, his wife, Ann, made corn salad and a daughter-in-law baked a blueberry pie.

“And I did most of the eating,” Romney said.
