Readers React: Don’t by fooled by the ‘natural’ in natural gas

To the editor: When I read the claims by the Southern California Gas Co. chief executive about steps his polluting and climate-wrecking fossil fuel company is taking to protect the public, I laughed. (“Southern California Gas using enhanced leak detection and inspections at Aliso Canyon,” Feb. 26)

He and his dirty energy cohorts have no credibility left. And neither do authorities who claim the Aliso Canyon gas storage field is crucial for our electric grid.

What is actually crucial is the rapid replacement of fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy to avoid the climate catastrophe that burning naturally dirty gas is causing. Don’t let the name fool you — natural gas is “clean” the same way coal is clean if compared to burning dung.

It’s time to stop poisoning our air, water and food with the toxic waste product the gas company spews every second its polluting and unhealthy product is burned.
