Around Town: Tarnished Treasures luncheon

The Laguna Beach Woman’s Club is hosting its annual Tarnished Treasures luncheon fundraiser 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at the clubhouse on St. Ann’s Drive, 286 St. Ann’s Drive.

The event is an opportunity to do a little gift shopping while enjoying a luncheon catered by Chef Alessandro of Alessa, according to a news release.

Funds from the sale of Tarnished Treasures benefit families in need.

Donations of treasured items, such as holiday decor, art jewelry, toys, clothing and household goods, can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Kinsman & Kinsman, 32355 S. Coast Highway or from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and 2 to 5 p.m. Thursdays at the clubhouse, except Thanksgiving Day.

Reservations are required by Dec. 6. Admission is $35 for club members and $40 for non-members. For more information, call (949) 499-8000.

Volunteer tutors needed

The American Assn. of University Women, Laguna Beach Branch is looking for volunteers to help tutor children at The Learning Club.

The club is an after-school tutoring program held at El Morro Elementary School for students in second to fifth grade.

The club will operate Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from January through May. Local adults and teens are welcome to apply. No experience necessary; training is provided.

Laguna Concert Band holds membership drive

The Laguna Concert Band is celebrating its 15th year as a Laguna Beach performing arts organization and is launching its first 2016 membership campaign to grow awareness and funds for the group.

The band’s recent performances include playing at the grand opening of the Bern Environmental Study Loop and Amphitheater at Crystal Cove State Park and at Segerstrom Hall after being selected as one of the finest community performing groups in Orange County by the Pacific Symphony.

Upcoming, the band’s performances will include two shows with guest artist Peter Asher in February and collaborations with the Laguna School District to highlight student performances.
