Tradition blooms in Queen’s Rose Garden

The Queen’s Rose Garden, near City Hall, got an addition last week when this year’s Miss Huntington Beach planted her rose.

In a tradition dating to 1967, each year’s queen of Surf City plants a rose sometime during her reign. Queen Katherine Rose Cason, who was crowned Miss Huntington Beach in October 2015, planted an Abraham Darby Rose on May 18 to commemorate her time with the city.

The celebration is sponsored each year by the Sand Dollars, a women’s organization in Huntington Beach.
