More than 2,000 people who took a beachside stroll Saturday morning in Huntington Beach were in it for more than the sun and exercise. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s raised more than $203,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County, the event’s website said Monday afternoon, as well as helped raise awareness and support for families affected by the disease.

Many participants representing more than 200 teams in the 2-mile walk beside Pacific Coast Highway carried artificial flowers of various colors. Yellow represented support or care for someone with Alzheimer’s, blue signified a personal battle with the disease, purple was to honor a loved one lost to Alzheimer’s and orange symbolized support for the cause.

Donations are still being accepted at www.alz.org/oc (look under “Walk to End Alzheimer’s”).
