The Huntington Beach Jr. Midget Division Gold Chargers dominated the La Mirada Matadores Saturday in scoring a 22-6 victory Saturday in Pop Warner Football action at Ocean View High.

Cole Kelley, replacing the injured Braeden Boyles at quarterback, succeeded in completing an 18-yard touchdown pass to PJ Campbell. Tanner Gunnell added the two-point conversion kick and the Gold Chargers took the lead midway through the first quarter.

On Huntington’s next scoring drive, receptions by Jake Brown and Jack Kosick helped move the ball to the La Mirada seven-yard line before Kelley scored a rushing touchdown at the end of the opening quarter. La Mirada answered early in the second quarter to score its only touchdown of the game. Defensively for the Gold Chargers, Jerian Operana, Mateo Lopez, Jaedon Davis and Evan Haithcock racked up key tackles to keep the Matadores from scoring again. Cole Yoshida ended the first half with an interception.

Late in the fourth quarter, Brown caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and Gunnell again converted the two-point kick as the Gold Chargers pulled away to a 22-6 lead.
