Re-signing Andrew Bynum was a solid move and the Lakers’ fast start to the season has been nothing short of spectacular, but here’s something that might really excite their fans: Live telecasts from the East Coast! . . .

Channel 9 for years has shown games from the Eastern time zone and occasionally the Central time zone on a tape-delayed basis, angering fans that wanted to follow the action as it happened but drawing higher ratings by showing games at a later hour when larger audiences were available to watch. . . .

This season, every Lakers game will be telecast live. . . .

Thank you, KCAL. . . .

No thank you, Channel 2, for showing the San Diego Chargers’ victory over the last-place Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday instead of the matchup of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks won by Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts over Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers. . . .

If Vince Young was in a funk before, imagine what he’s going through watching journeyman Kerry Collins lead the unbeaten Tennessee Titans. . . .

Time is running out on the Dodgers’ window of exclusivity in the Manny Ramirez sweepstakes, with other teams free to jump in starting Friday. . . .

Eight fans seated in a group of nine behind the USC bench Saturday at the Coliseum painted their chests to spell out P-L-A-Y-O-F-F-S, but why did the ninth brand himself with a question mark rather than an exclamation point? . . .

Vomiting through his facemask Saturday probably was not linebacker Rey Maualuga’s way of expressing his opinion about the USC offense. . . .

Or was it? . . .

Only once before this season had the usually high-powered Trojans won a game during the Pete Carroll era while scoring 17 points or fewer. . . .

This year, Mark Sanchez & Co. have done it twice. . . .

Equal-opportunity buzzkill Jacquizz Rodgers, a freshman running back who was the Pacific 10 Conference offensive player of the week after leading Oregon State to an upset victory over USC in September, won the honor for the third time Monday after helping the Beavers to a lopsided victory over UCLA. . . .

Good news for UCLA fans: Darren Collison and the Bruins open the basketball season Wednesday night against Prairie View A&M; at Pauley Pavilion. . . .

Prairie View A&M;, alma mater of long-ago former Lakers backup Zelmo Beaty, probably is best known for losing a record 80 consecutive football games, a nine-year streak of ineptitude that ended 10 years ago this fall. . . .

Tim Floyd’s USC basketball team, a loser in overtime against No. 1 NBA draft pick Derrick Rose and Memphis last Dec. 4, travels to Norman, Okla., this year for a Dec. 4 game against Oklahoma and 6-foot-9 sophomore forward Blake Griffin, who has been projected as the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft. . . .

Speaking of the draft, Fox Sports West last week rated the top five picks in Clippers history as Danny Manning, Loy Vaught, Lamar Odom, Al Thornton and Eric Gordon. . . .

Gordon at the time had played all of three NBA games. . . .

In case you wondered: Quirky Ron Artest of the Houston Rockets wears No. 96, the 9 representing the q and the 6 the b, in honor of Queensbridge, the housing project in Queens where he grew up. . . .

Kevin Moen, best known for scoring the winning touchdown and upending a Stanford trombone player at the end of the famous multilateral kickoff return that gave California an unforgettable victory over Stanford in 1982, is wrapping up his first season as co-coach of the football team at Palos Verdes Peninsula High. . . .

The Panthers are 4-5 and probably could use a miracle. . . .

Reader Mike Casey of Temecula e-mails to ask, “Why don’t we see Jerry Jones on the sideline boasting for the cameras when the Dallas Cowboys are losing?” . . .

Speaking of losing, do you miss the Rams and Raiders? . . .

A tip of the hat, a heartfelt toast and a humble thank you to all who have served in the military, a lengthy and distinguished roll call that includes sports figures (and actual heroes) such as Ted Williams, Joe Louis, Roger Staubach, Sugar Ray Robinson, Bob Feller, Rocky Bleier, Pat Tillman and so many others. . . .

Salute a veteran today.
