From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Ohio State waited a year to make up for a lopsided loss at UCLA.

Jessica Davenport scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds, and Caity Matter set a school mark for career three-pointers and had 19 points to lead the 10th-ranked Buckeyes to an 83-60 win over No. 20 UCLA on Tuesday night at Columbus, Ohio.

On Dec. 30, 2003, UCLA beat the Buckeyes, 71-56, in Pauley Pavilion.

“Last year we got down and were in a funk the whole time,” said Davenport, who also had three assists and three blocked shots. “This year everybody played their roles and did what we had to do to win.”

Brandie Hoskins chipped in with 17 points for the Buckeyes (11-1), who won their eighth in a row.

Starting point guard Nikki Blue, averaging 9.9 points and 4.9 assists a game, suffered a head injury in a 78-63 loss at Illinois on Sunday that prevented her from playing against Ohio State. UCLA issued a statement that said Blue was experiencing “concussion-like symptoms.”

No. 16 Vanderbilt 78, Pepperdine 46 -- Ashley Earley scored 20 points to lead the Commodores (9-1) in the championship game of the Hilton Woodland Hills Beach Classic.

Dee Davis had 19 points for Vanderbilt and was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.

Lauren Wenski led Pepperdine (3-8) with 15 points, and Jennifer Lacy had 14.

USC 71, Texas Christian 70 -- Sophomore guard Jamie Hagiya made a shot with seconds remaining to give the Trojans (6-3) their first and only lead at Fort Worth.
