Former Lakers center Chris Kaman to join the Portland Trail Blazers

Veteran center Chris Kaman will not return to the Lakers after one season.

On Thursday, Kaman reached a verbal agreement to join the Portland Trail Blazers for two seasons (at approximately $10 million).

Teams can negotiate with free agents but cannot officially sign them until July 10.

Kaman played one season for the Lakers, averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds through 39 appearances.

The Lakers are currently pursuing big name players like Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James. Kaman is the second Laker to find a deal elsewhere, preceded by Jodie Meeks, who will play for the Detroit Pistons next season.

The only Lakers under contract are Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Robert Sacre and Kendall Marshall. Of the four -- Marshall isn’t guaranteed and the team is considering waiving and stretching Nash’s salary.

Meanwhile, the Lakers have also lost assistant coach Kurt Rambis to the New York Knicks, as an assistant to Derek Fisher.

Luke Walton, who worked as a development coach for the Lakers’ NBA D-League affiliate (D-Fenders), has left to join Steve Kerr’s staff with the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers did add two players in the draft in power forward Julius Randle (7th overall pick) and Jordan Clarkson (46th overall pick, acquired in trade from the Washington Wizards). Neither has signed officially with the roster.

Finally, the Lakers are the only team in the NBA without a head coach.
