Case Keenum has not been cleared to play as he recovers from a concussion and the St. Louis Rams will start Nick Foles at quarterback for the second straight week.

Coach Jeff Fisher said Thursday that if Keenum is cleared on Friday, he would be the backup against the NFC West-leading Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in St. Louis.

Foles had three passes intercepted, one of them returned for a touchdown, in a loss at Cincinnati last week.

Keenum landed hard on the back of his helmet near the end of a loss at Baltimore two weeks ago, but was in the game for two more plays. He was diagnosed with a concussion after the game.

Revis unlikely to play

Darrelle Revis sat out practice again and it appears unlikely that the New York Jets cornerback will play against the New York Giants on Sunday.

Revis suffered a concussion at Houston on Nov. 22 and has not practiced, played or even attended meetings since. That had Coach Todd Bowles hardly optimistic that Revis could potentially play with just one day of practice.

“I don’t think so,” Bowles said. “He didn’t do anything today, so it’s more likely that he won’t play.”

Since being hurt, Revis has come to the team’s facility for treatment every day and then been sent home. Bowles said Revis did “light exercises” on Thursday, but it doesn’t appear his close to practicing.

This would be the second straight game Revis would miss, but Bowles isn’t concerned that this could be a long-term situation.

“It’s just a matter of when he heals,” he said.

Marcus Williams, Revis’ backup, is also uncertain with a sprained knee. He didn’t practice for the second straight day, and Bowles said Williams would be a game-time decision.

“It’s going to be real close,” Bowles said.

Gibbs likes Panthers

Joe Gibbs believes the Carolina Panthers can become only the second undefeated team in NFL history.

The three-time Super Bowl winning coach said he’s seen Carolina play twice this year and is impressed with its level of play.

“What they are, and I think they will have a chance for this reason, they are not winning it by skill plays or getting lucky on stuff,” Gibbs said. “They are pounding people. Sometimes, when they don’t play as well, they beat you up. They have a good defense. Defense always leads you. They’ve got a quarterback making all kinds of plays. I think they are going to be hard to beat.”

The Panthers are 11-0 and close out the season at New Orleans, with two games against Atlanta, at the New York Giants and home against Tampa Bay. Only the 1972 Miami Dolphins completed a perfect season, going 14-0 in the regular season and winning the Super Bowl.

Gibbs, now a NASCAR team owner, said the Panthers’ task will be keeping their intensity level high over the final five weeks of the regular season.

“The hardest thing in the world is to have a long string of wins … you just can’t get up that many times,” Gibbs said. “In sports, where everybody is pretty close, if you’re down and somebody is up — the other thing that happens to you when you win a bunch of games, the other coach, for instance in football, the easiest thing in the world is to say, ‘Hey, we’re playing the Panthers right now, they’re undefeated.’ ”
