Pyeongchang Olympic organizers say they won’t share with North Korea

Organizers for the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics in South Korea have spoken out against renewed suggestions that they shift some events to North Korea.

“With the construction for all competition venues already underway, we have already made it crystal clear that there is no point of discussing co-hosting of the Olympics,” Kwak Young-jin, the organizing committee’s vice president, was quoted as saying by Yonhap News Agency.

Earlier this week, the governor of the Gangwon province, which abuts North Korea, had urged that snowboarding be held across the border as a way to help ease tensions between the two nations.

Kwak held a news conference in Seoul on Tuesday to respond.

“We’re concerned that talks of co-hosting the Olympics at this stage will only have adverse effects on Pyeongchang’s Olympic preparations,” he said.
