Night Lines: The Stork Arrives

Talk about a special delivery. Grace Fernandez, Loyal Penningsand John Terzian have given birth to what is sure to be a hot hang this summer. Tucked away discreetly on Orange Street above Hollywood Boulevard (at 1738 N. Orange), the Stork (pictured) will bring postindustrial chic and sophistication to Hollywood. "All the windows were sourced from New York," says Terzian, who tapped longtime friend DJ AM (who is also a minority partner) to be the bi-level bar's musical director. Exposed brick and concrete are everywhere throughout the 8,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor lounge, but the Stork still exudes warmth, with cozy furniture and multiple areas to explore. Fernandez, who once helped run Hyde, promises a tight door, and the menu is being overseen by Steven Arroyo of Cobras & Matadors. The restaurant portion soft-opened this week (Update: the Stork has not opened to the public quite yet; expect an opening "soon," per reps); expect the bar action to heat up later this month as well.

Sapphire, a Will Shamlian (Library Bar, the Chalet) bar in Studio City, will soon undergo a transformation. The lounge will be remodeled to become a full-service gastropub and will reopen in October as Meeting House. Expect an extensive food and drink menu.

And speaking of bars in the valley, Craig Tragerfrom Vintage Bar Group recently opened his fifth bar (appropriately called the Fifth). The small lounge, at 4821 Whitsett Ave., features a pool table and, like Trager's other properties such as the Woods, is located inside a strip mall.
