U.S. Cargo Planes Drop 70,000 Food Packets
U.S. cargo jets dropped another 70,000 food rations over Afghanistan overnight as part of an American effort to get aid to civilians while military targets are attacked, an Air Force spokesman said Wednesday.
The latest mission, flown by four C-17 planes, leaves the total number of packets dropped so far “in excess of 850,000,” said Maj. Scott Vadnais, a spokesman for U.S. Air Force Europe at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The start of the airdrops coincided with the beginning of U.S. airstrikes in Afghanistan Oct. 7, and aid missions have taken place most nights since.
