Jose Sulaiman Longtime head of World Boxing Council Jose Sulaiman, 82, a wealthy Mexican businessman who was the longtime head of the World Boxing Council sanctioning body, died Thursday in Los Angeles, said his son Mauricio. The elder Sulaiman had been hospitalized at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for months for a heart condition. Sulaiman was born May 30, 1931, in Ciudad Victoria in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. He boxed as an amateur and became a manager, trainer and referee. At 16, he joined a Mexican boxing commission.
