Red Sox infielder Pablo Sandoval to have shoulder surgery

Boston Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval will have surgery on his left shoulder in the next few days.

The team announced Monday the procedure will be performed by Dr. James Andrews in Florida. No timetable was given for how long Sandoval is expected to be sidelined, and the Red Sox say they will comment after the operation.

Sandoval is in the second season of a $95 million, five-year contract. He's been on the disabled list since April 13, retroactive to April 11, with a strained shoulder.
