Life of former Easton, Lafayette, pro athlete Frank Grube came to tragic end 70 years ago

It was the first week of July 1945. The war in Europe had ended about two months earlier and the war in the Pacific was winding down. In the Lehigh Valley, temperatures were in the 90s and people were thinking about the upcoming 4th of July holiday. Frank Grube, a standout athlete at Easton High and Lafayette College who would go on to play both pro football and baseball, had been retired from baseball for about four years. Grube and his wife, the former Jessie Lorraine Goddard, had moved to New York City where he was employed in the shipyards during World War II.
