Tuesday's multi-sport college and local roundup: HU assistant Burgess takes head women's basketball coaching post at alma mater Delaware State

COLLEGES: Women’s basketball: Barbara Burgess, who for the past six seasons has been an assistant coach for Hampton University, accepted the head coaching position at her alma mater, Delaware State. This will be Burgess’ first head-coaching job in Division I. During Burgess’ tenure, the Lady Pirates won five MEAC tournament titles and five MEAC regular-season crowns. She was Phoebus’ head girls coach from 2002-08, going 73-67. She ended her playing career in 1989 as DSU’s second all-time scorer with 1,807 points.
