Da Nang, Vietnam, and Wildwood, N.J., lead the pack of TripAdvisor's more than 50 "destinations on the rise" in 2014.
The website's Traveler's Choice Awards in this category reflect "unheralded destinations across the globe that are receiving rave reviews from travelers worldwide," chief marketing officer Barbara Messing said in a statement released Tuesday.
Catalina Island in Southern California made it into the top 10 at No. 7 for U.S. up-and-coming places.
Wildwood Beach, flanked by sister beaches North Wildwood and Wildwood Crest in southern New Jersey, was popular in the 1950s and '60s. Its boardwalk, beach-side amusement park, frozen custard stands and lots of family-style activities endure -- and score for nostalgic charm on TripAdvisor.
