Egypt: Abercrombie & Kent’s new 11-day tour starts at $1,995

Egypt remains in flux since the revolution exploded in January. Tourism has been slow to bounce back, according to media reports. Upscale outfitter Abercrombie & Kent has put together a new 11-day trip to ancient landmarks beginning at $1,995 a person.

The deal: Egypt: A Moment in History is about the lowest price I’ve ever seen for A&K’s usual Egypt itineraries (you can view a cost comparison on the website), but it doesn’t scrimp on the highlights. The itinerary includes visits to the pyramids, the Sphinx, the Temple at Karnak and other ancient sites. The group travels to Cairo, Giza, Luxor, Aswan and other cities on a four-day cruise along the Nile River.

When: The tour departs Oct. 27 and Dec. 8 from Cairo.

Tested: There’s still availability for both departure dates. The lowest fare of $1,995 (plus tax, fees and a $300 in-country airfare) is based on double occupancy; solo travelers add $815. The trip includes five nights at the Fairmont Nile City, four nights on the cruise, 18 meals, guides and tours. International airfare is extra.

As far as visiting Egypt goes, the U.S. State Department’s travel alert on April 28 said normal embassy operations had resumed but warned Americans about staying away from demonstrations, which could turn violent.
