Airbnb rolls out last-minute booking for L.A. and S.F. on mobile app

If you’re an Airbnb fan who likes to wait until the last minute to find a place to stay, your mobile app has come in.

Today the home-rental company begins a service for San Francisco and Los Angeles listings that allows users to instantly book a place. The company says its instant bookable listings have increased from 35,000 at the beginning of the year to more than 90,000 now.

Like hotel apps such as Hotel Tonight, Airbnb will highlight listings on its search page that provide a real-time place to stay. Look for “Need a place for tonight or tomorrow” on the search page to click and book, according to an Airbnb statement.

The app will display only properties immediately available and, like others, will tell you when it has sold out too.

The company also is launching a feature called Weekend Getaways that, it says, “focuses on discovery and inspiration rather than instant bookability.”

It begins with getaways near San Francisco, including listings for destinations in California’s wine country, Lake Tahoe and Santa Cruz. Options also include places such as Portland, Ore., a short airplane ride away.
