The Four Preps will sing about Catalina ’26 Miles Across the Sea’

The men who popularized the Catalina Island theme song “26 Miles Across the Sea” more than a half-century ago will return to the island’s iconic Casino on Friday for an evening concert.

The Four Preps, with original lead singer Bruce Belland, will perform in the Avalon Theatre, an Art Deco classic that gained national prominence when bands were big and movies were just beginning to talk.

During the 6-8 p.m. concert, the Preps will sing a variety of numbers, including doo-wop and pop standards, besides their late 1950s hit “26 Miles Across the Sea.” The event is a benefit for the Rotary Club of Avalon and its charities.

A VIP reception with the Four Preps will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

Tickets for the concert are on sale at the Catalina Island Visitor Center on the Green Pier or online from the Chamber of Commerce. They range from $25 to $100; the reception is included in the cost of the $100 tickets.
