Gear: Handheld vac is pricey but effective for quick car cleanups
The small rechargeable hand vacuums I’ve kept in my car trunk for quick cleanups inside the car or at my accommodations don’t seem to cut it for me. Dyson has come up with a powerful featherweight alternative (warning: it’s expensive) that can morph from a little hand vacuum to a long-reach floor vacuum, thanks to interchangeable tools and extensions.
The DC59 Animal Cordless Vacuum weighs less than 5 pounds, despite a supercharged V6 digital motor, 15 radial cyclones spinning in two parallel tiers to pick up hair and other gunk like crazy.
The ergonomic trigger grip releases instantly, so battery power is used only for cleaning. You get 26 minutes on a full charge. Bin emptying involves the push of a button, without having to dirty your hands.
This little sucker, with its shapely design and gun-metal gray and purple accents, looks cool and classy. It comes with a docking station for convenient storage and charging at a vacation getaway.
Info: Dyson DC59 costs $499.99 but works hard for the money.
