In Las Vegas, Oktoberfest begins in September

Share

Move over, Munich. The autumn celebration of beer is as close as Las Vegas, and the festivals get underway in September, not October.

Oktoberfest kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas (4510 Paradise Road), when Sin City’s most famous German natives, Siegfried and Roy, tap the first keg of Oktoberfestbier, a heady lager imported from their homeland.

The festival continues through Oct. 31 with nightly food specials. Mondays will feature krautbickerl, a stuffed cabbage roll. Saturday’s specialty is Schweinshaxe, a crispy pork shank.

The celebrations aren’t confined just to the Vegas outpost of the famed Munich beer hall. September is chock-full of special events, along Las Vegas Boulevard and downtown, at which to sample some tasty brews with probably unfamiliar names.

There’s even a new microbrewery -- Sin City Brewing Co. -- right on the Strip.

“Prost” (cheers) to the new Septemberfest.
