Las Vegas: New pub at MGM Grand shows chef Michael Mina’s flair

Don’t let the word “pub” in the name Pub 1842 name fool you. At the culinary helm of the new MGM Grand eatery is Michael Mina, who’s taking a step back from his usual fine dining.

Mina, whose other Las Vegas outposts include American Fish at Aria and his namesake Michael Mina at Bellagio, has brought his creative culinary skills to his newest eatery with dishes diners are unlikely to find elsewhere.

The place features a variety of burgers, but they’re far from the traditional fare. His peanut butter crunch burger ($17) is topped with bacon jam, potato chips and pimento cheese. The vegetarian falafel burger ($15) highlights his mother’s falafel recipe.

Mina also offers lobster corn dogs ($14), which replace the lowly hot dog with chunks of lobster.

The pub is named after the year in which modern Pilsner was created, so it’s not surprising that more than 60 Pilsners, stouts and lagers are available.

To round out the corner bar ambience, ping-pong and darts are provided.

Pub 1842 is open 11:30 a.m.-midnight, and until 1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
