Las Vegas: A $95 bottle of beer? Yep, but the 259 others cost less
People hoping to chill with a cold beer on a hot summer’s day will find the choices seemingly endless at the Pub at Monte Carlo. The bar and restaurant boasts one of the largest selections of beers on the Strip.
The Pub’s 13-page beer menu features, at any given time, between 260 and 300 kinds of brews, including 120 drafts. The remaining 140 to 180 beers come in bottles; the number varies seasonably based on availability.
Most guests stick to their favorite brews--those they can get “in any bar anywhere in the country,” said Robert Parekh, the general manager. The lengthy menu caters to clientele seeking something “new, different or local.”
The Pub at Monte Carlo’s rarest and priciest beer is La Trappe Isid’or, a pale ale created by Dutch monks in 2009 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Koningshoeven Abbey. The proceeds were set aside to help build a new monastery in Uganda.
Parekh said he procured “a few cases” of Isid’or. A 12.7-ounce bottle costs $95.
“Surprisingly, we sell a bottle every couple of weeks,” he added.
Servers at the Pub participate in weekly taste testings. The purpose, Parekh said, is to help them better inform customers about the choices.
“Two Porters can be remarkably different,” he said. “We want to showcase those differences.”
Four Las Vegas brews are among the offerings.
