Graceland isn’t the only place for Elvis celebrations. Tupelo, Presley’s birthplace, will host an Elvis Presley Festival from June 6 to 8.

Although live music takes center stage (with two of Elvis’ Blue Moon Boys, Little Richard, a gospel show and rockabilly tunes), there will also be an Elvis Lookalike Pet Parade and a Recliner Race. Tupelo is in the northeast part of the state.

MONTANA

Little Bighorn reenactment

Using a script written from notes by a Crow tribal historian, Custer’s Last Stand Reenactment, June 20 to 22 in Hardin, will tell the story of the 1876 Battle of Little Bighorn from a Native American perspective. More than 200 performers, many on horseback, will take part in the event, which will be held near the historic battle site. At the Little Big Horn Days Celebration, held along with the reenactment, the festivities will include entertainment, parades and arts and crafts.

PENNSYLVANIA

Dutch folk life, arts and crafts

The annual Kutztown Festival, June 28 to July 6 at the Kutztown Fairgrounds, is a good opportunity to enjoy traditional Pennsylvania Dutch crafts and foods (ox roasts, pies and pastries).

The event features one of the biggest quilt sales in the country, plus more than 200 craftspeople demonstrating and selling their wares.

For kids, there will be baby farm animals on display, haystacks and mazes. Also planned: fiddlers, storytelling, parades and historical seminars. Everyone is invited to join in the cakewalk (an old-fashioned dance step).

WISCONSIN

At this festival, all the fun is cheesy

The Great Wisconsin Cheese Festival, June 6 to 8 in the village of Little Chute, pays homage to the state’s enormous dairy industry. Locals compete in the cheese curd eating contest, but everyone is invited to sample cheddar, Gouda, cheesecake and other goodies. Also: crafts, rides and cheese carving. Little Chute is a 20-minute drive from Green Bay.

WYOMING

Explore a yurt, hear Kyrgyz music

Vista 360, June 19 to 22 in Jackson Hole, is a new festival that celebrates the creativity that mountains inspire -- and not just the Rockies. A highlight will be the exchange with Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyz musicians and dancers will perform, and festival visitors may explore a ceremonial yurt. Also planned: Bandaloop (performing gravity-defying dances in the Snake River Canyon), fiddlers, a writers’ and thinkers’ program, wildlife art exhibits and theater performances.

CANADA

Barbershop quartets chime in

The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America will hold its international convention, World Harmony Jamboree, June 29 to July 6 in Montreal, with foursomes traveling from as far away as Japan and England to compete.

Besides traditional arrangements, there will be a gospel sing. Visitors who make a donation can sing with one of the quartets.
