The hotel that Keating built

Share

James T. Yenckel’s article, “Oases of Luxury in the Desert” (Oct. 6), failed to note that Charles H. Keating Jr. and the now-defunct Lincoln Savings & Loan Assn., which he controlled, were involved in the financing and construction of the Phoenician.

That fact is almost a historical footnote today, but it won’t be forgotten by the thousands of mostly aged and retired investors who were bilked of their life savings in the infamous scandal.

After years of waiting in vain for restitution, many of us find it hard to revel in the grandeur of Keating’s folly.
