Stars will come out in Vegas to celebrate 150 years of statehood
Jerry Lewis, Penn and Teller and Wayne Newton are among the stars who will gather this month in Las Vegas to celebrate Nevada’s 150 years of statehood.
In a run-up to the actual date -- Nevada became America’s 36th state on Oct. 31, 1864 -- the variety show will be Sept. 22. It’s billed as a celebration of culture in the Silver State and will be held at the Smith Center in downtown Las Vegas.
The lineup includes cast members from Cirque du Soleil, Jersey Boys and Jubilee!. Magicians Penn & Teller, who are longtime headliners in Vegas, will also take the stage.
Singers Clint Holmes and Frankie Moreno as well as Motown impressionists Human Nature will perform. They will be accompanied by the Lon Bronson Band and the Las Vegas Mass Choir.
Longtime Vegas residents Lewis and Newton are also scheduled to appear.
The performance will include tributes to Liberace, Frank Sinatra and Mark Twain, who worked for a newspaper in Virginia City, Nev., in the early 1860s.
Tickets cost $25 to $100 plus fees. Proceeds will benefit the Smith Center’s education outreach programs.
