Sixties superstar Bobby Rydell, the original teen idol, returns to Las Vegas
Bobby Rydell was a teen idol in the baby boom era. Now, at age 73, he returns to Las Vegas to perform his rock ‘n’ roll hits at the Suncoast Showroom on Oct. 17 and 18.
Born Robert Ridarelli, the Philadelphia native’s good looks, fame and talent made him an American idol when he won a TV show as a teenager.
His solo acts took off after 1959 with hits such as “We Got Love,” “Kissin’ Time,” “Wild One,” “That Old Black Magic,” “I’ll Never Dance Again” and “Forget Him,” among others.
Over the course of his career, Rydell recorded 34 Top 40 hits, and was named by Billboard as one of the top five artists of the early 1960s.
He also appeared on “American Bandstand,” “The Red Skelton Show” and “The Milton Berle Show.” In 1963, Rydell starred in the classic film “Bye Bye Birdie” as Ann-Margret’s boyfriend, Hugo Peabody.
