A Pacoima man dubbed by police the “Electronic Bandit” for his method of getting bank tellers to give him money has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison. Police said David Gregory Miller, 37, frightened tellers by warning them that he had an electronic device that could detect silent alarms.

Also sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles was Miller’s wife, Jacquelyn. She was given a four-year prison term for driving the getaway car in five San Fernando Valley bank robberies in August.

Assistant U.S. Atty. David Katz said Miller told bank tellers that he would kill them if his electronic device revealed that they had triggered bank alarms.

Miller served 8 1/2 years in prison for killing a liquor store owner in 1970.
