The Federal Trade Commission declined to oppose the company’s acquisition by Whirlpool, a subsidiary of Dart & Kraft, much to the chagrin of White Consolidated Industries, which had urged intervention on antitrust grounds. White said it will push its case in U.S. District Court in Cleveland to block the acquisition as anti-competitive and tending to create monopolies in the dishwasher, disposer and compactor markets. That trial is scheduled to begin April 29. Dart & Kraft welcomed the FTC decision and called WCI’s suit “without merit.”
