Share

Lear Siegler reported record sales and net earnings for the third fiscal quarter and nine months ended March 31.

Third-quarter sales of $591.84 million compared to $542.52 million in the same quarter a year ago. Net earnings of $24.71 million were up from $21.9 million.

Current-year operations include Bangor Punta, which was acquired Feb. 1, 1984. If Bangor Punta sales had been in all of the prior year’s results, the increases in sales would have been 2% in the third quarter and 7% for the nine months.

Sales for all three of Lear Siegler’s business segments--aerospace and technology; automotive, and commercial and industrial--were higher in the third quarter. Segment operating profit was slightly lower in the quarter, with an increase reported by aerospace and technology offset by a decline in commercial and industrial.

For the nine months ended March 31, Lear Siegler’s sales of $1.73 billion were up from $1.3 billion, while net earnings rose to $66 million, compared to $56 million a year ago.

Lear Siegler, a diversified manufacturer headquartered in Santa Monica, had sales of about $1.9 billion in the fiscal year ended June 30, 1984.
